The Top 10 Creepiest Horror Movies of All Time (So Far)
78
There are a lot of creepy movies out there. However, not all of them are creepy enough to make you sleep with all the lights in your house on, and a shotgun in your hand. So I have compiled, with what I think is creepy, a list of the top ten creepiest horror movies of all time. Well, the top ten creepiest horror movies so far. I can guarantee there are many more to come. Lets dive right in. Here they are.
#10: Cabin Fever
Cabin Fever is a pretty spooky tale about a group of friends that go on vacation to a small cabin in the middle of the woods, and soon enough they each start to die off in horrible ways, one by one. I know what you're going to say, "horror movie cliche done a million times." However, this is not your average horror story. There is something very very wrong up in those woods. The friends aren't only dieing off one by one, but they are, what looks like, falling to pieces, and there isn't a slasher or scary monster to be seen anywhere. The secret to what is happening to these kids is very well hidden till close to the end of the film, and it is amazingly shocking. The leg shaving scene alone is enough to make you drop your glass of water and huddle under your blankie.
#9: Strangeland
Strangeland is a one of a kind, creepy as all hell, horror film about torture and sadistic self abuse. The film tells the story of a deranged man that kidnaps young girls, via internet chat-room, and puts them through horrible forms of torture. One of these girls just happens to be the daughter of a small town detective that will do anything to find her and take this lunatic down. This film will have you paranoid, and jumpy about joining in on any chat-room on the World Wide Web. Along with very graphic scenes of torture and painful body modification you will crawl right out of your skin. Have fun not sleeping for a few days due to this films intensely creepy, disturbing nature.
#8: Silence of the Lambs
The Silence of the Lambs tells the story of a troubled FBI agent, Clarice Starling, who is on the hunt for a very twisted serial killer. The serial killer, who the press ends up calling Buffalo Bill, kidnaps girls who he believes has really nice skin. Clarice recruits help from a cannibalistic psychiatrist named Dr. Hannibal Lecter who becomes fascinated by her personal demons. Together they work on stopping the deranged Buffalo Bill. Creepy as it is, this film will make you jump and cringe all the way to the end. You will never look at lotion the same way again, and whenever Q. Lazzarus' "Goodbye Horses" comes on the radio you will probably want to turn it off, after watching this terrifying creeper fest.
#7: Halloween (2007)
Rob Zombie's rendition of Halloween is on this list due to it's graphic violence involving one really creepy kid. This film follows the story of Michael Myers who is growing up in a very neglectful, abusive household. One night, Halloween night, he snaps in the head and kills his whole family. This film, unlike John Carpenter's original Halloween, really gets into the psychological study of a child who seems to be possessed by a demon that will kill anything that gets in it's way. This kid is probably one of the creepiest kids in any horror film out there. This remake of the 80's slasher classic will get so far under your skin that you will probably have to take breaks to get through it.
#6: Childs Play
Talking about creepy kids, Child's Play follows the story of a psycho killer kids doll named Chucky that needs a new body so he doesn't get stuck in doll form forever. Andy Barclay is the chosen one. Barclay, a six year old, has been telling everyone that Chucky is the one causing all the murders happening around him, but no one believes him. He must outwit this terrifying doll and save his own life in this chilling tale of survival. You will never walk down the toy isle again after munching down your popcorn without blinking through this terrifying film.
#5: The Strangers
The Strangers follows a young couple home after a long night at a friends wedding. Upset at each other and mentally ready to break, they prepare themselves for bed, but not for fear. They begin to get weird knocks at their door by a creepy girl in shadow. Not long after that they are being terrorized and mentally tortured by a group of people in the creepiest masks possible. There is a lack of a soundtrack to this film, however it doesn't need one. The silence and suspense is what really gets your nerves boiling, and it brings the creepiness factor up 100%. Who ever said that living in the suburbs was safer than the city was obviously wrong.
#4: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
This original version of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows a group of young adults on a trip to check on a family grave site after hearing about grave robberies around the area. After arriving they are dropped into a fight for survival against a chainsaw wielding madman called Leatherface. From the openings creepy sounds of old school camera clicks and disturbing scratching sounds to the closings loud, psychotic, laughter, there is no question that this film is one of the creepiest films there is. And not to mention the lack of light through the whole film causes your imagination to go wild and force chills down your spine.
#3: Jeepers Creepers
Jeepers Creepers follows a pair of siblings on a road trip home from college on a desolate country highway. They are happy to be headed home and have no idea what they are about to face. They first almost get run off the road by a maniac driving an old, beat up truck. Then they spot the same truck later down the highway dumping what looks like bodies wrapped in sheets down a sewer drain. Of course they have to investigate and what they find is more horrible than they expected. They then find themselves running for their lives from something more deadly than they would have ever imagined. I can't exactly explain why this film is so terrifying without giving the end away, however, listen to the many renditions of a song called Jeepers Creepers and you might get a little hint of how creepy this film is.
#2: Let the Right One In (2009 Swedish)
There was a Hollywood remake done of this film, but don't bother with that one. It isn't even close to the creepiness of the original. The story follows a young boy, Oscar, who befriends a young girl, Eli. What he doesn't know is that she is a blood thirsty vampire. They become what you could call dependent on one another and it's actually quite heartwarming. However, the films graphic nature and disturbing events almost got itself to number one on this list. Oscar is, what you would say, in the beginning stages of becoming a psychopathic serial killer, and, again, the young girl is a vampire. It's a match made in heaven, or hell. The creepy thing about this film is that it is so dark, slow, suspenseful, gory, and somewhat realistic that you actually feel like you are living through the events of the film as they happen. If you get to scared just remember they can't come in unless you invite them.
#1: Stephen King's It
And finally, we get to number one; Stephen King's It. The story follows a group of friends that, at a young age, encounter an evil, child hungry, clown named Pennywise the Clown. What is more creepy than that? Clowns might not be that creepy to you, but after watching this film you will never feel comfortable standing next to one again. This film earned itself the number one spot on my list of the creepiest horror films of all time because there is nothing out there like it. Yes there was that stupid comedy "Killer Clowns from Outer Space" but that wasn't creepy in the slightest. Stephen King has always known how to scare people so much their hair turns white, and he hit home with this one. Good luck trying to shower after gym class after watching this one.

The Strangers is one of my favourite recent ones. It isn't the scariest as far as costumes etc go but the setting for the movie is terrifying. Good hub I might just do one of my top 10 favourites!
Great hub! I love your top two choices. It was a great Stephen King adaption! Let the Right One In is definitely a creepy foreign horror movie. I think I might add Insidious, The Blair Witch Project, and The Devil's Rejects to the list as well.
Hey Rob, nice reviews. I'll start working my way down the list! Cheers for the fan mail too. Much appreciated.
Welcome, Nice review. I specially enjoyed the photos of yourself with the actual title, they give atmosphere to the hub
