Tucker & Dale VS. Evil: A Brief Review
58
Tucker & Dale VS. Evil is a rarity of the comedy world. A dark tale of mistaken identity and bad luck. A film that is as gory as it is hilarious, and brilliant. This film takes you into the depth of the dangers of vacationing and camping in a forest plagued by murder, and bad reputations. Everyone has heard of the repeated horror theme of murderous hillbillies, but this film brings a whole new taste to the genre.
The film tells the story a couple of really close redneck friends, Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine), who are headed out into the middle of nowhere to fix up their vacation home. What they don't realize is that there is a group of young college kids that decide to go on a camping trip to the lake on the same land where their vacation home stands. While taking a late night fishing trip they save the life of one of the college students that just fell off a rock into the lake, and knocked herself unconscious on a rock. The other college kids see this happening and take it the wrong way. They think that the pair of hillbillies has kidnapped their hot blonde friend and are evil axe murderers. The film quickly turns into a hilarious fight for survival for both groups. Throughout a series of unfortunate accidents the college kids start getting offed one by one, and the poor, friendly, hillbillies think they are part of some creepy suicide pact. However, the college kids see these hillbillies as the ones that are causing their friends deaths and decide to fight back. Who will survive?
It is very rare nowadays that someone brings this kind of comedy to the horror world. It's neither a spoof of other films, or a terrifying fright fest one would expect from the DVD cover art. This film has the odd mixture of horror, comedy, and romance that will keep any audience entertained and wanting more. Throw in a good amount of gore, mystery, and lighthearted vacation fun, and you have one of the most brilliantly written films of the century.
This tale of wrongful accusations and hilarious confusion proves to be a film like no other, and will keep people laughing for years to come. I recommend this film to anyone who wants to laugh, cry, and shiver in fear all at the same time. I believe it deserves an amazing 5 stars for it's artistic brilliance, and comedy genius.
"YOU KIDS HAVE TO START BEING MORE CAREFUL!!!" -Tucker-
